Prayer and Meditation Garden

The Reverend Paul William Bala, 72, a senior priest of the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw, died Tuesday, March 17th, 2015.

Father was born and lived in Bay City, Michigan. He studied for the priesthood at Holy Cross Seminary in La Crosse, Wis. where he studied philosophy, and theology at St. John Provincial Seminary in Plymouth, Mich. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 7, 1969 by the Most Reverend Francis F. Reh, third Bishop of Saginaw.

Father served in several parishes throughout the Diocese of Saginaw, during his 46 years of ministry. His last appointment as Pastor, Father served at St. Mary's Parish in Port Sanilac., where he also bought a home to retire.

While Pastor at St. Mary's, Father will be known for his dedication and overflowing charity to all. He began the Prayer and Meditation Garden behind the Church by planting one King Maple tree in the center. Throughout the years, this Memorial Garden has grown into a space for reflection on God, His Goodness, and His creation. Father inspired others to volunteer upkeep of this beautiful garden and it soon expanded to include memorial plots dedicated loved ones of our parish family. Father was the kind of man who responded to the least request of those around him. He was always there to be helpful and self-sacrificing. Father will be very missed. If you get a chance to pray in our Garden, please remember Father Paul Bala. May he rest in peace!

The Prayer Garden will be selling Rich Earth at the front door of the church. We are offering a pair of garden gloves along with your purchase for $10.00 or a bag of Rich Earth for $5.00.

There will be a meeting for the workers of the Prayer & Meditation Garden on Thursday April 27th, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Please bring your list of annual or perennial flowers needs. If you have any questions call Flo Husson 810-622-9704.
